Service Interval Warning Light - Reset Information
These servicing warning lights are normally reset (turned off) by the main dealer once they have finished servicing your vehicle.
If you have just serviced your vehicle yourself, or had it serviced in a local garage you may find that the 'service interval warning light' still needs to be reset to turned the light off.

BMW 7 Series [E38] - 1994 onwards
With under bonnet diagnostic socket.
(if you do not have an 'LED test lamp' you could use a piece of fuse wire or similar)
Oil service LED
Switch ignition on.
Connect LED test lamp between terminal 7 of the engine diagnostic connector and earth. Diagnostic connector located adjacent to left or right-hand turret or on bulkhead.
After 3 seconds 5 green LED's will illuminate. Switch ignition off and remove LED test lamp.
Inspection service LED
Switch ignition on.
Connect LED test lamp between terminal 7 of the engine diagnostic connector and earth. Diagnostic connector located adjacent to left or right-hand turret or on bulkhead.
After 12 seconds 5 green LED's will illuminate. Switch ignition off and remove LED test lamp.
Inspection service LED together with clock symbol
Switch ignition on.
Connect LED test lamp between terminal 7 of the engine diagnostic connector and earth. Diagnostic connector located adjacent to left or right-hand turret or on bulkhead.
After 12 seconds 5 green LED's will illuminate. Switch ignition off and wait 20 seconds.
Switch ignition on. After 12 seconds 5 green LED's will illuminate.
Switch ignition off and remove LED test lamp.

Accessing service information using service interval indicator
Switch ignition on.
Press and hold button [A] fig 5 for approximately 10 seconds until the first service item is displayed. fig 6.
No 1 - Engine oil
No 2 - Microfilter (Pollen filter)
No 3 - Front brake pads
No 4 - Rear brake pads
No 5 - Brake fluid
No 6 - Vehicle check
No 7 - Spark plugs
No 8 - Stat. vehicle insp. MOT test
No 9 - Stat. vehicle insp. Exhaust inspection
Items requiring service are followed by '!'
Press button [A] fig 5 to display nest service item.
To exit menu switch ignition off.

Accessing service information using i-drive
Switch ignition on.
Slide and release i-drive controller [A] fig 1 in the direction of the menu selected or twice in any direction to display 'i menu' fig 2.
Slide and release i-drive controller [A] fig 1 in the direction of 'OB data' [B] to display menu.
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select symbol [A] fig3.
Press i-drive controller [A] to confirm.
Service items that are due are displayed in yellow on the i-drive screen.
Service items that are overdue are displayed in red on the i-drive screen.
Further information on each service item can be displayed as follows:
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select the service item.
Press i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to confirm.
To exit menu turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select symbol [A] fig 4.

Switch ignition OFF.

Resetting service interval indicator
NOTE: Instrument panel must indicate correct time and date before resetting service interval indicator. Service interval indicator can only be manually reset if its value is below 80% of its life, by "!". If "o" is shown the item is not due for reset and can only be changed using diagnostic equipment.
Switch ignition on.
Press and hold button [A] Fig 5 for approximately 10 seconds until first service item is displayed.
Press button [A] fig 1 to display next service item.
If displayed service item is to be reset: Press and hold button [A] Fig 5 for 3 seconds until the message "Reset?" is displayed.
Press and hold button [A] Fig 5 again for at least 3 seconds.
Switch ignition off.
Note: If the service interval indicator displays [A] fig 8 then either a stat. vehicle insp. (MOT test) or a stat. exhaust insp. 'is required' This can be reset using the following procedure:
Switch ignition ON.
Slide and release i-drive controller [A] fig 1 in the direction of the menu selected or twice in any direction to display 'i menu' fig 2.
Slide and release the i-drive controller [A] fig1 in the direction of 'OB data' [B] to display menu.
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select symbol [A] fig 3
Press i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to confirm.
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select 'stat. vehicle insp. (MOT test) or stat. exhaust. insp'.
Press i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to confirm.
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select symbol [A] fig 7
Press i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to confirm.
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select a new month.
Press i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to confirm.
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select a new year [B] fig 7.
Press i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to confirm.
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select a new year.
Press i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to confirm.
Turn i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to select a 'CONFIRM' [C] fig 7.
Press i-drive controller [A] fig 1 to confirm.
Switch ignition OFF.
