According to Automotive News Europe, the sixth-generation Volkswagen Golf will be replaced by an all-new product (Golf 7) in 2012, giving it a life span of four years, which is shorter than its predecessors:
- first-generation Golf (years 1974-1983)
- second-generation Golf (years 1983-1991)
- third-generation Golf (years 1991-1997)
- fourth-generation Golf (years 1997-2003)
- fifth-generation Golf (years 2003-2008 )
- sixth-generation Golf (years 2008-2012)
Set to hit German showrooms on October 10 and carrying a price tag of EUR 16,500 for version powered by an 80hp petrol engine, the sixth-generation Golf shares with the outgoing model its platform, some powertrains and the roof, but can otherwise be considered new.
