Volvo Introduces New 16-Liter, 700hp Euro 5 Truck Engine

Volvo has introduced a new 16-liter heavy-duty diesel engine that delivers 700 hp (523 kW) of power and 3,150 Nm (2,323 lb-ft) of torque. The Volvo D16G is a further development of Volvo’s previous D16 engine that produced 660 hp. Despite the higher power, fuel consumption remains the same as in the previous engine generation.

In addition to the extra 40 horsepower and somewhat higher torque, the new engine reduces emissions of NOx by 40% compared to the previous engine. The new 16-litre engine is certified for the new Euro 5 emission requirements that come into force on 1 October 2009.

Through a number of measures including redesigned pistons, Volvo’s engineers optimized the combustion process and met demands for high performance combined with efficient fuel utilization, low emissions and long lifetime. Both maximum power and maximum torque span a wider rev range than before. The engine now also features a new oil thermostat that has a favorable effect on fuel consumption.

The noise level during idling has been lowered by 2dB(A). With the help of pre-injection, where a small amount of fuel is sprayed into the cylinder, the result is a gentler combustion sequence and a far lower noise level.

The engine uses a new and larger system for exhaust aftertreatment. Since the system can handle a larger flow of exhaust gases, counter-pressure is reduced and power losses are minimized. A larger-capacity system also results in better cleaning capacity. Just as before, the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system is used.

The Volvo D16G is equipped as standard with a new, electronically controlled exhaust brake (EPG) with an output of 230 kW. Electronic control makes it possible to reduce the number of moving parts, promoting simpler operation, higher reliability and lower weight. There is also the option of the Volvo Engine Brake, VEB+, with 425 kW braking effect.

The new Volvo D16G is also available in 600 hp/2,800 Nm and 540 hp/2,650 Nm variants.

Volvo has applied the engine in the Volvo FH16 truck.

Nu mai exista concurenta pentru Volvo in domeniul camioane, iar aici nu are rost sa venim cu argumente ca in 2003 a luat nush ce firma camionul anului, si asa mai departe intrucat stim cum se acorda aceste premii. Volvo este puterinic, frumos, fiabil, insa este scump ca achizitie si service, dar merita si ultimul leu.

nu cred ca man cu al lui v8 de 680cai va sta cu mainile in san si va admira opera volvo. cred ca nu va trece mult si va scoate ceva din motorul ala v8. ceva cu 40-50 de cai peste volvo asta

de parca ar conta 20-30 CP la Camioane, si mai ales la nivelul asta. De curba de putere, de cuplu, cutia de viteze si 'maruntisiuri' de astea nu vorbeste nimeni, dar cei 20 cp sunt esentiali

dar ma surprinde ca nu a aparut multimea "asta bate/nu bate veyronu" si respectiv "numai atata dintr-un v8 de 16l?" :lol:

dar serios, ma termina faptul ca volvo, in disperarea de a fura de la Man din zona asta de piata, isi face reclama agresiva la absolut orice maruntis (vezi "The noise level during idling has been lowered by 2dB(A)" :lol:). lasand carcoteala deoparte, pare un cap tractor genial. astept sa-l vad pe soselele patriei (poate chiar sa imi si pun fundu intr-unul)

MAN are un motor de 16l V8 ce dezvolta 680cp si 3000Nm
Volvo are un motor de 16l L6 ce dezvolta 700cp si 3150Nm

Ce poate fi de apreciat mai mult un motor in V cu 2 cilindrii in plus dar cu 20 cp mai putin si 150 Nm sau un motor in linie cu 2 cilindrii in minus dar cu 20 cp + respecitv 150 Nm?

Atasat curbele de putere sa vezi cat conteaza 20-30 cp + si asta dintr-un motor in linie.

ma refeream ca e mai mult o lovitura de imagine datade volvo. nu ca ar conta 20 de cai in plus. ca man isi adjucase titlul de cel mai puternic camion. la asta m-am referit. oricum man mi se pare mai bun. cu toate ca sta mai prost la cuplu.

Si cand era Man cel mai puternic camion, cu 680 CP, Volvo era peste el cu penultimul tir de 660 CP datorita cuplului, 3100 Nm intre 1000 si 1450 rot/min iar MAN scotea 3000 Nm intre 1100 si 1500 rot/min.

Ma faci sa rad:)) daca opel insigna a luat masina anului inseamna ca este cea mai buna? Stim cu totii cum se adjudeca aceste premii. Cand Volvo castiga 4 ani la rand titlul de camionul anului Man inca se chinuia sa scape de problemele legate de bucsaraia cabinei, marea buba a Man-urilor.

Am in firma si unu si altu,parerea unanima a soferilor e ca Man bate tot,viteza,confort,etc.parerea lor conteaza,pt ka pt ei e si casa,si masa,si masina..intro cabina de volvo,eu nu pot sta in picioare,in Man stau..si mai multe avantaje,pe kare noi nu le luam in calcul ptr ca,ptr noi,nu is importante,preferam sa vb din citate,sau speculatii de presa...ar trebui intrebati ei,cei care le utilizeaza.

simti nevoia sa te bagi in seama? am zis eu ca e cel mai bun? am zis ca mi se pare mie cel mai bun. si atc daca zici de insignia ca nu e cea mai cu toate ca a luat titlul de cea mai buna, atc de ce zici de volvo ca a luat titlul de cel mai bun 4 ani la rand , daca" stii tu cum se acorda premiile astea".

Eu ti-am dat un raspuns la ceea ce ai spus tu cu privire la titluri obtiune. Ca sa-ti dai cu parerea ar trebui cel putin sa te fi urcat atat in Volvo cat si intr-un Man sa-ti dai seama de calitatea materialelor, sa fi mers cu amandoua sa-ti dai seama de consum/tinuta de drum. Si acum intreb cati din cei care au postat/votat Man/Volvo au facut asta?

eu votez pentru MAN au fost cam tot timpu si peste mercedes si peste volvo cand MAN avea 600cp volvo debea aveau 520cp

nu sunt specialist in camioane nu ma bag mai mult..o sa ma mai documentez

Crezi ca doar caii putere conteaza la un camion? Gandeste-te la cuplu, la transmisie, la consum ( Man a fost mereu cel mai " betiv" dintre toate camioanele ) si nu in ultimul rand la fiabilitate + reteau de service.

A si vezi ca Man nu avea 600cp cand Volvo avea 520cp!

pai mi-ai dat raspuns, total ceva pe dos de ce spuneai tu, si anume ca nu conteaza titlurile( dand exemplu opel insignia), apoi spunand ca atunci cand volvo castiga de nu stiu cate ori la rand titlul de cel mai bun, nu era nimic de capul manului. te contrazici pe tine insuti. odata nu conteaza titlul, odata conteaza. si in al doilea rand, da, am mers cu amandoua, si trebuie sa recunosc ca man a fost mult mai bun la confort, calitatea materialelor, tinuta la drum, si la consum au fost la fel.

Tibby nu stau sa-ti explic tie ca esti pe dinafara. Eu iti dau exemple conctrete nu din auzite.

De ce majoritatea granzilor din industria transporturilor rutiere au mers pe Volvo ? si nu pe Man ?

Cine ar cumpara un camion cu aproximativ 10.000 euro mai scump dar mai prost ? Si aici vorbim de ordinul sutelor de camioane ( Edy Spediton , Frigoexpres si lista poate continua )

Iar cand facem o comparatie intre 2 camioane trebuie facuta la acceasi putere, la acelasi nivel de echipare acelasi sofer!

Ambreiaju' pe schimbator a fost cea mai proasta inventie facuta de MAN si sa sti ca manurile au cele mai proaste cutii de viteze dintre camioane.
La Man fiabilitatea cam lasa de dorit: arcuri rupte cu gramada, rulmeti intermediari, tot felul de senzori, intercoolere etc.

poate volvo sunt mai ieftine si asta conteaza in primu rand ..tu pui probleme ca toate sunt flote de volvo pai si la taxi nu e tot la fel logan o gramada... masini ieftine sa scoti cat mai mult profit..undeva MAN domina o parte din piate poate la transporturi speciale trailere..

cum mai spunea si cineva, daca majoritatea granzilor din industria transporturilor au ales volvo, e posibil sa-l fi ales pentru ca este cel mai ieftin. nu pentru ca este si cel mai bun. eu am vorbit, cu multi mecanici si cu multi soferi, care au mers pe man si pe volvo si pe scania si pe toate marcile posibile, si au reparat toate marcile posibile, oameni care toata viata au mers pe tir, inainte sa achizitionez un tir( vroiam man, volvo sau scania) si majoritate( adica vreo 60% ) au zis man, si scania au zis iar ca este foarte bun. dar ca volvo este ultimu din cele 3. ma refer aici la confort, putere, transmisie, fiabilitate, etc. adica toti parametrii.

eu sunt fan Actros, desi stiu ca nu e cel mai bun la toate capitolele,dar am auzit mecanici cum ca ar fi cel mai simplu construit si ca e foarte usor de reparat.Volvo a scos cel mai puternic motor, insa nu cred ca concurenta va lasa sa ramana astfel situatia.
