Re: Topic for English speaking International users

Sorry to poke my nose into your affairs like this, and sorry for the offtopic while I'm at it, but shouldn't this discussion be bumped somewhere closer to the front page of the forum? Or at least make it a sticky.

Oh, and, I think this thread is a great way for everyone to exercise their English. You peeps from outside our border seem to be doing OK, whereas my written English is... suffice to say it's not really that good.

Just my 2 cents.
Best of luck to you all :D (please don't kill me)

Well then, I might return in a few hours/days/weeks to this thread.. who knows? Maybe things will start moving a little bit more around here soon enough. I doubt we'll encounter English-only speaking members.

Re: Topic for English speaking International users

Planning so many things this year, but something tells me very few will get done.
One of them is to complete my project car: an 1984 VW Rabbit GTI, that is currently stripped down to a bare shell. I have a "donor" car that I have to take apart, use the parts on the good one and so on... Haven't thought about the engine yet, I have a 9A 2.0L 16V Passat engine, but was thinking about using an ABA bottom end (stronger internals, and the main advantage is that the accesories like the alternator, p/s pump, etc are using a serpentine belt that allow a higher rpm level ~8000-8500rpm) and mate it to my 16V head that will receive some work (port/polish, stiffer valve springs, big ass 286 degree cams).
The real dilemma is what fueling system am I gonna use? Well I have 2 ideeas:
-use 2 old skool Weber DCOE 35 carbs and be more in tune with the period of those cars, or
-usa a standalone engine management system for spark and fuel injection for more reliability and less headaches???

Then the car has to be painted among other things...

Yeah, as you can see alot of work ahead, probably won't see it finished for another year or so, but I'd rather do it properly or not do it at all.

Cheers,
Florin

Re: Topic for English speaking International users

that sounds like a crazy project, kinda expensive too

definitely done right! What do u intend to do with the car? Show, weekend driver, track?

BogdanNZ 16-01-07 09:26

Re: Topic for English speaking International users

I rekon any project like this is cool...u just need money...and patience...
I think Sebi will surely want to know more, knowing what a big Golf nut he is

nea' turbina 16-01-07 16:45

Re: Topic for English speaking International users

@Lex:
This will be my weekend car, probably drive it as much as possible during the summer. If I get the suspension sorted out the way I want it then maybe I'll try to enter a couple of Auto cross events.
@Bogdan:
Yes, the project is alot of fun and gives me a sort of satisfaction that nothing else does.

Money is a very important part, that is why I am not going to finish the car anytime soon. I am renting a spot in a storage building that also allows me and a few other friends to work on our projects. I will try to get a few pics posted in a few days.

Sebi is also a Mk1 nut, I have seen pics of his "baby". I'm sure we can have a few interesting conversations.

buyakasha!

it's great that u have the time and money for a project like this.

I'm planing on doing something like this also, a muscle car though....but so many things to do, so little time and no money :(

U know how it is... You plan on spending $1000 and you end up spending $3000 (as an example)
It is difficult to get the parts that I want, luckily I have Vwvortex and Ebay at my disposal. Like I said before, I am not dropping huuuuge amounts of cash into the car right now, but it is still in it's early stages. The paint will likely be the most expensive thing (I approximate 2-3K $)

Anyways, if I would be to do it all over again, I would buy someone else's almost finished project, because I have got the car as a rolling shell. It didn't have a motor, interior, wiring harness, etc, so those things pushed me to get a parts donor car. So luckily for me I have most of the stuff needed on the donor car, however there are still things I need to buy.

BogdanNZ 18-01-07 11:25

Re: Topic for English speaking International users

Put some pics(empty shell & donor) up, so we can get a feel for the scale of the project :)

Hey guys (and ladies), not many news to report, the only notable thing is that I am getting brand new fenders and a rad support straight from VW. I only wanted original parts for the project car and that's what she's gettin...
I hope to get a few pics of it soon...though there's not really much to see now.

Has anybody seen Transformers yet ?

Nicknamed_13 31-07-07 13:52

Re: Topic for English speaking International users

Yep! I liked it soooo much! It was better than that shity Fantastic 4 and I actually liked it more than Spiderman 3 which was probably best of the trilogy.

Just for the record I love movies. Anything that comes out .... I have to watch it. Spend LOTS of money on movies. But NEVER buy a DVD!

BogdanNZ 31-07-07 14:09

Re: Topic for English speaking International users

I'm an old time Transformers fan so had to watch it before it actually came out in the cinemas over here...Long live torrent downloads! lol :) The special effects and CGI are by far the best I've seen in a long time...

Which reminds me...at the hondas meet last month...Mihai was "showing off" his automatic roof on the Del Sol.I remember saying that car should have been in the Transformers movie...:D

Nicknamed_13 01-08-07 05:13

Re: Topic for English speaking International users

All that was with Bogdan's help. He was the jukebox. He can really sing the Transformers theme song and "What I've done" by Linkin Park.

Please stop reminding me of that car. I miss it so much! It was a great car. Limited edition stuff.
:tears: :sadblinky
