TOYOTA CELICA ST185 ENGINE 3S GTE

After Carlos Sainz winning the 1990 World Rally Championship for drivers and becoming 2nd in the 1991 championship with the Celica GT-Four ST165, Toyota Team Europe (TTE) introduced the ST185 for the 1992 season. Lots of early testing paid off in the first rally with the new car; Sainz managed to finish in 2nd place in the Monte Carlo Rally. At just 2 minutes and 5 seconds behind Didier Auriol in the Lancia Delta HF Integrale, Sainz showed not only the spectators, but also the competition Toyota was going to continue at the top.

Although several privateers and national teams were very successful with the ST185, I'll only treat the TTE cars and drivers on this page.

The 1992 WRC season

For the 1992 season Toyota contracted the following drivers and co-drivers (right to left); Carlos Sainz / Luís Moya, Armin Schwarz / Arne Hertz, Markku Alén / Ilkka Kivimäki and Kenneth Eriksson / Nicky Grist:



Upon the request of TTE, the ST185's modifications were mainly dedicated to improved cooling efficiency. Where the ST165 more than once had timing belt issues due to the heat, the ST185 had a special snorkel to prevent the timing belt from melting. The front facia also got more and bigger air ducts to achieve the set cooling goals. The car however, proved to be quite difficult to control and the mechanics had to deal with several problems through the car’s debuting year. At that point the suspension design and drivetrain were modified after which the car began to show it's full potential while staying a true driver's car. The center diff for instance, had been altered to 50:50 for smoother cornering which also caused more understeer. The gearbox was also modified to suit the high engine torque, resulting in a more robust and reliable car. After winning 4 rounds in the 1992 season, Carlos Sainz again won the World Championship title.

1993; New sponsor, new drivers

During the 1993 season Carlos Sainz was under contract with Lancia. When Repsol stopped the sponsorship contract with TTE and also moved to Lancia, the 1993 car got the colour scheme of crown sponsor Castrol. Another change was the move from Pirelli to Michelin, which ensured competitive equality in terms of tires.

In 1993 Juha Kankkunen came back to Toyota as the new main man. After his co-driver Juha Piironen fell out due to a serous head injury, Kankkunnen changed co-pilots three times during the season. The first time Nicky Grist drove with him they immediately took the first place. After the Kankkunen/Grist team's third victory in the British RAC Rally, Juha Kankkunen was the new World Champion while Toyota won the long awaited World Championship for Manufacturers.

The domination continues; 1994

Didier Auriol and Juha Kankkunen stayed with TTE / Toyota for the following season. Accompanied by Yoshio Fujimoto and his co-driver Hakaru Ichino (both from Japan) the new 1994 team was formed. Although TTE brought the new ST205 to the Telecom Rally Australia as a final testing stage, the ST185 proved still to be competitive - resulting in a lot of podium finishes throughout the 94 season.

Once again Carlos Sainz, now driving for Subaru, was a force to be reckoned with. A nice example was Corsica; Auriol finished the first day in the lead and had a 30 second lead before he spun and stalled his engine. Sainz caught up on the last day and could even have won the rally but had to reach the finish with a flat tire.

1995 - One last victory

The 1995 Safari Rally of Kenya was the last WRC victory for the ST185. Yoshio Fujimoto and Arne Hertz managed to win the rally in a total stage time of 17h 38m 27s. Although the ST205 was TTE's new weapon of choice, the reliable ST185 was still being used by TTE several rallies in the 1995 season.

During a technical inspection at the 1995 Rallye Catalunya, the FiA discovered an illigal turbo restrictor in Auriol's ST205. This device limits the amount of air that can enter the turbo and thus the horsepower output. Toyota engineers had mounted the restrictor in a clever way so that it could move from the turbo, letting more air in. As a result of this cheating, TTE got banned from the WRC for 12 months and the points already won in the 1995 Championship were taken away by the FiA.

De ce? Simplu.

Cea mai longeviva si vanduta masina (din 1938 pana in 2003 si pesre 23 milioane exemplare produse). Astea sunt datele sintetice.

De suflet... E greu de descris. E o masina care are performante modeste, optionale inezistente (poate cea mai spartana masina produsa, nici macar banala bricheta nu se gaseste nici macar pe lista de optiuni!), si totusi are cel mai mare grup de admiratori din lume, adevarate legiuni. Cluburile VW Aircooled sunt cele mai numeroase de pe planeta. Masina asta te face sa te legi de ea intr-o relatie asemanatoare cu casatoria.
Tot aceasta masina a generat pioneratul tuningului modern. Primul curent: German Look. Istoria este frumoasa: proprietarii nemultumiti de performantele Broscutei imprumutau piese Porsche (istoria VW este strans legata de familia Porsche) si transformau broscuta intr-o adevarata "Porsche Killer". Asta se intampla in anii `50.
Acum sunt mai multe curente de preparare a unei Broscute, cele mai importante sunt: French Look; Call Look; Drag; Rat Look si bineinteles German Look.

nu sunt exper in old school, si nu sunt fan masini americane, dar mai exista(cel putin pt ei) si altceva decat mustang.

BMW M3 - E30

In 2006 s-au sarbatorit 20 de ani de la aparitia "of the most successful touring car of all times" ca sa citez worldcarfans.com. In toti acesti ani M3, prin modelele sale s-a aflat in fruntea clasamentelor atat la vanzari cat si in cazul competitiilor de pe circuit. Desi initial au fost propuse doar 5000 de exemplare pentru omologare, succesul si popularitatea castigate de M3 au facut ca numarul exemplarelor vandute sa atinga 18000 de unitati. Desi vanduta ca o masina de strada M3 se simte ca acasa pe circuit dand dovada de performante uimitoare pentru acea vreme si nu numai.

Nu te supara tenny-e.Ce ar trebui sa ne uimeasca la acest mercedes?Cum arata sau ca ai tu?sau ca sunt o gramada in Romania?Argumente vrem.
Pana una alta o masina exclusivista care sigur nu cred sa vad prin Romania vreodata.
OPEL LOTUS OMEGA
Este lansata in 1989 in urma unei colaborari intre Lotus si Opel.Masina a fost produsa in 950 de exemplare toate avand o placuta pe capacul torpedoului cu numarul de serie.Fata de modelul standard aceasta masina beneficiaza de interior din piele,exterior latit cu body-kit, jante mult mai late, anvelope facute la comanda cu sigla omega,frane mult mai mari si partea cea mai interesanta motorul de 3.6 litri (6 in linie),24v ajutat de 2 turbocompresoare T25 care imping puterea la 377 cp.Cum OPEL apartinea GM, cutia pe care au folosit-o a fost preluata de la Corvette ZR1 cu 6 rapoarte, considerata cea mai performanta la vremea aceea.De asemenea beneficiaza si de un diferential autoblocant.Lucrul care a consacrat-o a fost faptul ca nu avea nici o limitare de viteza masina putand atinge viteza de 300 km/h pe cand companiile rivale Bmw si Mercedes si-au limitat masinile la 250 km/h.Totusi pretul exorbitant pentru unii si mai mult decat cinstit pentru altii care luau in considerare exclusivitatea si performantele de invidiat pentru o masina de familie (0-100 5.2s 0-160 11s) au facut din ea o legenda.
Cuvintele spuse sunt putine pentru o asemenea masina insa n-am vrut sa plictisesc.

Acest model ar fi fost urmasul controversatului model S4, cel care participa la group B in '85, si in care a murit Henri Toivonen, in urmare rallyul era amanat si in 2 zile group B era desfiintat din cauze de siguranta.

Cateva specificati, chestii interesante despre masina de rally facut de niste oamneni foarte drogati...

-Motorul din start e ciudat, seamna ca constructie cu S4, fiind 1.8 16v dar fata de S4, care avea un compresor si un turbo asta are doua turbine...daca asta nu ar fi destul de complicat, este in stanga si in dreapta motorului, adica pe ambele parti a chiulasei are o galerie de evacuare cu turboul ei, la fel are o galerie de aspiratie care la fel alimenteaza din sus chiulasa.
Teoria: 4 supape, din care pe o parte ina este pentru aspirare, cealalta pentru evacuare, asta este bun din 2 motive, prima ar fi ca se poate monta 2 turbine relativ usor si astea pot lucra fie una dupa alta, fie deodata (asta pentru eliminarea LAG-ului), in al doilea rand este bine pentur eliminarea caldurii si uniformizarea caldurii chiulasei, asta era numit Triflux.
Deci, motrul respectiv pana la 4000 merge cu una din turbine, peste 4000 se deschide o supapa si incepe sa lucreaza si cealalta.
-Rotile erau concepute de Speedline si sunt din compozit...
-Caroseria era proiectat atunci pe calculator (CAD/CAM) si este tot din compozit, fibra de sticla si cevlar.

Technical specification

Engine Centrally mounted, longitudinal with 4 cyl inline. 1795CC. Bore x stroke, 88.5mm x 71.5mm Triflux' double reverse flow cylinder head with 4 valves/cylinder and twin overhead camshafts. Compression ratio, 7.5:1. 600bhp @ 8000rpm.. 55mKg@5000rpm. Twin KKK (K26 type) turbochargers with individual intercoolers. Weber/Magnetti Marelli injection/ignition with electronically controlled turbocharging level. Dry sump lubrication with pressure and extraction pumps and air/oil radiators.

Transmission Four-wheel drive. Epicyclic train torque converter with viscous coupling and ZF differentials rear. Carbon fibre/Kevlar drive shafts. Provision for locking the central torque distribution (30/70, front/ rear). Twin-plate clutch with metal-ceramic friction gaskets. Five speed gearbox longitudinally mounted at rear.

Bodywork Load-bearing structure made of carbon fibre honeycomb with steel tube screen front structure. Bodywork mostly made of carbon and Kevlar resins, impregnated with epoxy resins.

Suspension Independent struts, coil springs and anti rolls front and rear. Co-axial Bilstein dampers at front, double acting Bilstein dampers at rear.

Brakes Front: Ventilated discs with twin-calipers and two 300mm diameter Brembo cylinders. Rear: Ventillated discs with single calipers and four 300mm diameter Brembo cylinders. Brakes operated through twin hydraulic pumps in parallel with manual balance adjustment.

Steering TRW rack and pinion with power assistance.

Wheels Composite material, Speedline 9ins x l6ins rims at front with light alloy 11 ins x 16ins at rear. Pirelli tyres 230/660-16 (front) and 290/660-16 (rear)

mikkai si daca iti spun ca este una din astea in romania ce o sa mai spui?
este in baia mare si are numarul nouasutetreizecisiceva 93x...si omu o vindea cu 16 mii euro acum 2 ani aici pe forum daca nu ma insel, verifica.
am inteles ca proprietarul are in baia-mare ceva firma de reconditionat masini vechi, atelier auto, vopsitorie-tinichigerie...spalatorie auto...sau asa ceva

da da da :P asta`i masina dar cand am vazut eu pozele proprietarul parca mai avea si un bmw 850i si erau facute intr`un garaj...
oricum proprietarul am inteles ca are un 26 de ani...daca nu ma insel
chiar sunt curios cum ar merge masina asta se serpentinele de la oituz

Sunt cel putin uimit.Carlton era varianta pentru UK si zic eu, ar fi trebuit sa aiba volan pe dreapta dar la cat de putine au fost orice este posibil.Imi place ca e originala si arata impecabil.

Cuvintele spuse sunt putine pentru o asemenea masina insa n-am vrut sa plictisesc.
Nu ma supar! Este o masina cunoscuta pentru fiabilitatea sa, care a facut istorie in cei 10 ani de productie si nu numai. Modelul este cautat si apreciat si in ziua de azi, la fel cum este broscuta de la VW sau E30 de la BMW. Doar cunoscatori stiu! PS: aici nu este vorba doar despre serii limitate,masini unicate sau exclusiviste.
